Are you not sure where to go to eat? Then follow Ewha's Food Road. We took a walk down Ewha road and visited four popular eating spots.
Popo Tree
The first restaurant we visited was the Popo Tree. This is a steak restaurant popular with Ewha students for its taste and cost. Whoever wants to eat steaks at a low cost can enjoy their meals here. When you enter the restaurant, you will notice that it is very cozy inside. On the walls there are thousands of memos written by visitors, which makes you feel warmth.
It has 7 menus: Ddokgalbi steak(4500 won), Teriyaki chicken(6000 won), Silk steak(6000 won), English roast beef(6900 won), Volcano silk with cheese(7500 won), Big silk steak(9900 won) and Big roast steak(12900 won). For appetizers, there is salad, soup, bread which is freshly baked in the kitchen. Also, you can enjoy six different flavors of homemade fruit sherbet desserts. The best selling menu is English roast beef, which has mushrooms and bean sprouts on it and under the beef there is a hidden card: potatoes with herbs. Silk steak is also served with mushrooms and bean sprouts so you can enjoy the munchiness of vegetables with pork. The black-colored rice served with all the menus can be refilled for free if you want. The name “Popo Tree” has a special meaning. Popo tree’s blossoms bloom downward (unlike other flowers’ petals which usually bloom upward). It means that the restaurant “Popo Tree” will serve the customers modestly and kindly like the Popo tree’s blossoms.
MilleFeuille
The second restaurant is a Japanese restaurant ‘MilleFeuille’, which means “thousands of leaves” because its pork cutlet is fried with 25 layers. The hours of operation are from 11 AM to 10:30 PM. You can enjoy various pork cutlets which you can’t try at other restaurants such as plain, kimchi, herb, cheese and black pepper whose prices are from 9000 won to 12000 won. Also you can try Katsudon which is a kind of donbori and Japanese noodles. You can have rice and salads on your individual plate which is very sanitary and neat. I recommend that you ask for free beverages because unless you ask the waiters, they won’t serve it. Also, there are special lunch menus which are much cheaper than dinner time. It opens until 5 p.m and the Katsudon costs only 6000 won.Gyros
Our third stop was very close to the Ewha main gate: a Greek restaurant called ‘Gyros’. The hours of operation are from 11.00 to 21.30 and every Sunday is a holiday. You can feel the atmosphere of real Greece through the interior because there are many Greek pictures and posters. Most people order the Olympic Set which is for 2 people or more and includes Greek dishes. It costs 10000 won per person. This set menu includes Souvlaki brochette, white bread for the Souvlaki, Spanakopita, a spinach pie, and Gyros, Greek sandwich. The advice is that on your birthday, you can get a free Polaroid picture.
Jjamppong news
Our last stop was a Chinese restaurant called Jjamppong News (짬뽕 늬우스).
The weather is so cold and the prices are so high these days that we are chilly and depressed. But the ‘Jjamppong News’ attracts our feet with its low prices and delicious food.
When you open the door, you will see the unique interior which makes you feel comfortable. The shop is so sanitary, too. When you look at the menu, you will be surprised. It has 4 different jjampppongs: Jjamppong(4500 won), Hell Jjamppong(5500 won), Men’s Jjamppong(6500 won), Nagasaki Jjamppong(6000 won), and Fired Jjamppong(6000 won). They use a specially-made seasoning in their food without using artificial flavors or enhancers, so jjamppong soup is refreshing and spicy. Especially, if you choose a Nagasaki Jjamppong, you can try white soup and it is a unique feature. Also, jjamppong’s noodle stripes are chewy and after you eat the dishes, you don’t feel bloated. The all prices are below 7000 won and you can enjoy Jjamppong at a low price.
